NX: Find Unsew Edges ,Free Edges | UG NX

Find Unsew Edges ,Free Edges | UG NX

If you convert, sew a sheet metal body into solid body, then you have to check whether the body has any free boundaries or not .

We can check the free edges using following procedure.
  1. Make sure that you are active in UG NX Modeling application
  2. In Menu bar , select Analysis - Examine Geometry
  3. Now Examine Geometry dialog will appear
  4. Select sheet bodies you wish to check for objects to investigate.
  5. Check (Enable tick mark) on Sheet Boundaries for Body Checks
  6. Now click Actions - Examine Geometry.
  7. If any free edges are present, a check box of Highlight Results appears.
  8. You can Check on Highlight Results to highlight the place of error in specific color.

Hide Dimension in UG NX Drafting | Replace Manual Value , Append text to dimension

Replace dimension text in UG

Sometimes, we would be in need of hiding the actual/original dimension of a component and replace it with a desired value.
By default, there is no option to replace or hide the actual dimension in NX..

Follow the procedure to hide the original dimension and add your desired dimension manually.

  1. Select the dimension value that you need to replace in UG NX Drafting module.
  2. Now, Right click the dimension and choose Append text
  3. A text editor opens now. Type the desired value to be displayed.Give OK
  4. Now we have to hide the original dimension.
  5. Select the dimension, Go to style.
  6. In lettering tab, select lettering type as Dimensions. Change the character size from 3 to 0.0001
  7. Press OK
  8. Now, you will see only the manual values that you have entered in Append text editor.

So, as summarizing the trick is reduce the font size to very small so no one can see it but actually it is there.

Alternate method: Right click dimension → Settings → Text → Format → Override Text → Delete the value manually

NX: Change mouse Cursor Shape in Unigraphics NX without circle symbol | UG NX

Change Cursor shape in Unigraphics

If you have worked in I-deas NX prior to UG NX, then you might feel something odd while working with its new cursor display which has a combination of cross symbol combined with cirle symbol.
You cannot completely remove the circle symbol , but reduce its size to very minimum. At the same time, if you want to increase the circular area , you can do it easily.

The UG NX customer survey team reported that reduction of the circle size decreases the overall productivity of the user. Because ,the circle simply indicates the region of selection and if you reduce it , you have to concentrate more to select an object which in turn reduce your productivity.

Anyway, you can make a try to work without the circle symbol in cursor using the following procedure.

  1. Open UG NX software
  2. Go to Preferences - Selection in the menu bar
  3. Now a settings form called Selection Preferences opens which contains a set of options
  4. Look for Cursor
  5. In cursor section, choose selection Radius as Small. By default it would be Medium
  6. Now give OK

You can now visualize your cursor almost without a circle. (Very small) . It will be very similar to Ideas cursor. But you may find difficulty while selecting the objects.
At any time you can set back to the previous settings using the above mentioned procedure.

Frequency Response Simulation in UG NX Advanced Simulation FEA

Frequency Response Analysis :

In Unigraphics (UG NX) Advanced simulation FEA, we can simulate Frequency Response Simulation based on modal analysis results.

The steps for performing a Frequency response simulation are as follows :
  1. Prepare FEA model with Proper material, Boundary conditions etc
  2. For restraints use Fixed restrain and Apply Enforced motion location at the desired points or nodes
  3. For Solution type: Choose SEMFREQ 111
  4. Subcase to solve : Modal Frequency
  5. After solving for the solution set, now we have to create a response simulation .
  6. Right click on the part.sim , Go to New Solution Process: Response Simulation
  7. Right click and create New Evento Go to Event manager in Tools to create New Event
  8. Function Tools: To create a frequency function of type General- Spectrum
  9. Now for an event, select the enforced motion and for that enforced motion apply the function you have created.
  10. After creating a Frequency event, now Right click and choose Evaluate Contour results - Response
  11. Choose the desired output you need to obtain and select all the elements of the modal.
The results will be evaluated and the contour will be stored in the results section that can be viewed in Post Processing column.
