Difference between Signals G , E , H , H+ , 3G, 4G and R symbols for Mobile Network Internet Signal Symbols , Change E to H

If there is an additional letter found at the right top of the Signal Bar of our Mobile phone, it indicates that apart from Voice call we can send data Transmission through the mobile phone that is nothing but through Internet Browsing.


Depending upon the Tower Capability in our location, we can get different symbols near the Signal Bar like G,E,R,3G,H,H+,4G etc,

How to change "e" in mobile network type into "h", "g" :

  • In your smartphone Go to Settings → More networks → Mobile networks
  • Choose Network mode and change it from GSM to WCDMA or 3G only
  • Now switch on the mobile data to get high speed signal H, H+ or 3G in your smartphone
  • Ensure that your region has 3G coverage to receive high speed signal.

Signal G stands for GPRS. If this letter displays , we can send data as GPRS package . The speed of the GPRS is very slow around 128 Kbps maximum

Signal E indicates that EDGE type of signal is available in out area.EDGE signal is slightly faster than GPRS signals and the speed is about 256 Kbps maximum.
One more advantage of E signal is , it can automatically change to another signal tower if we are moving in a bus or car. GPRS has not capable of this facility and it will disconnect often while we travel.
R symbol indicates that you are in Roaming or Roaming is activated in your mobile phone to utilize data. Sometimes Roaming will costs additional charges and you have to be more careful when you are out of your region.

3G signal Indicates that UMTS high speed data is available in your location. In Practical the maximum transfer speed we can experience through this 3G signal is maximum 1 Mbps.

>>What does H and H+ Indicate

H signal and Indicates that HSP and HSPDA data available in your location , It is also called as 3.5 G data as it is slightly faster that 3G signals. If your device is capable of browsing H+ data, then you can experience little more faster downloads than the usual High speed data.

4G is the latest and highest speed browsing speed currently. The Signal we receive is of type LTE which means faster than all the 3G speed data.If your mobile network provides only 4G, but your phone does not have LTE feature, then you will not get any signal in your phone
