NX Assembly: Find a selected component in large assembly tree list

NX is one of the tool widely used by OEM to manage large assemblies as it can be well handled with PLM applications like Teamcenter.
When you are working with a large assembly structure which consists of more than hundreds of components, it is very difficult to find the name of the component in the assembly tree.

In such case, where you can find or spot out the component in the stage or screen, but you couldn't easily find out in the assembly navigator , then there is a special feature to do this operation.

Finding a component in Assembly tree list in NX

To find the selected component in Assembly tree in NX:

1. In the Filter list, select components
2. Now , Load all the components in the assembly and ensure that they are visible in the screen
3. Now , select the component that you want to know where it is located in the assembly tree
4. After selecting the component, click Find in Navigator option
5. Now, the component will be highlighted in blue in the assembly navigator.
6. Even if the component is located at third level or fourth level sub assembly, this option will automatically expand that particular sub-assembly tree and highlight the component.

Split a face in NX | Split Body in NX

In NX , a surface or body can be split into two using Divide face, Split body option respectively in Modeling application.

Using Divide face option :

   Divide face is one of the familiar surfacing option in NX. Prior to using this option, you have to sketch the boundary on the surface. You can also project the curves on the surface to be divided.

1. From the tool bar, select Divide Face option. Ensure that you are in Modeling application and keeping the desired part as work part.
2. Once the divide face window opens, select the face to divide. Use Single Face filter option if you want to select only one face. By default , all tangent faces will be selected.
3. Now select the boundary curves that you have drawn already using sketch option.
4. Select the projection direction. You can choose either  Normal to face or  Along vector  based on your requirement
5. Press OK after seeing the preview. Now the face will be spitted into two based on the boundary curves .

Using Split Body feature :

You can divide a body into two just by using Split Body option. The procedure is similar to the divide face feature, but the resulting feature will be two bodies instead of two faces.

1. Select Split Body option.
2. In the Split Boy window, select the body to be split
3. Select the boundary curves and choose the projection direction.
4. You can change the projection direction based on your need.
5. Once you are OK with the preview , select OK to complete the operation.

In NX 10 or previous versions, if you receive an error while importing an CGM file, then try the following solutions.

Solution 1: 

Ensure that you are in drafting mode and try importing the CGM file. Currently if you are in modeling application, then switch to drafting application and create an empty sheet and try importing the CGM file into NX.
Your CGM file will be imported as a new sheet as per the default settings.

Solution 2:

If the above solution does not works, then there are possibilities that you don't have write access to specific folder where the CGM file creates a temporary translation file while importing into NX. To resolve this issue, right click the NX icon in the desktop and go to properties.
Change the Start In folder location from default path to some other path which you have right access. For example if you have access to D:/temp , then replace the default path with this new path.
Now restart NX and try importing the CGM file into NX drafting application.
