Find the area of the shaded region in blue:

  • Provided that the triangle is a right angled triangle
  • Hint: Area of Right angled triangle = 1/2(b.h) , where b is the base and h is the height

For this question, you can just use the area of the big triangle and subtract the little white triangle. Because the triangle is a right triangle, so the base is (5 + 4) = 9 and the height is 8
First, find the area of the big triangle:
1/2 * 8 * (5 + 4) = 36 square units
Secondly we need to find the area of the small white triangle:
1/2 * 8 * 5 = 20 square units
Lastly, subtract the small triangle from the big one:
36 - 20 = 16 square units
So 16 square units is the right answer.
